Are There Ever Times When There Is No Homework Set?

During term time there is always English homework set. Homework entries are based on a weekly numerical system – Week 1, Week 2 etc. Dates change with every new academic year and so have not been used in order to avoid confusion. The Summer holidays, as well as Easter, Christmas and half-terms are left free for students and parents to prioritise other important forms of learning and individual growth (e.g. the social development associated with family time should not be underestimated; the benefits of trips to museums and the theatre are obvious, as well as activities promoting physical exercise). That said, parents who wish their children to continue homework tasks have several options available to them. The development of a reading habit through term-time months can be built upon with continued commitment and a trip to the library or bookshop. Parents can identify mistakes that have been made in previous homework tasks during the term and ensure that understanding is consolidated, for example through spelling tests made up of previous weeks’ mistakes or the revision/repetition of particular written or oral homework tasks that students found difficult. Students could, of course, commit themselves to tasks that they did not have time to complete during normal term time subject allocation.
